OVERVIEW
To live in the shadows is not to be invisible—it is to be seen only when someone chooses to look.Visual work for UNHCR Thailand on displacement, made under the title Living in the Shadows.
Shadow is the material here, not the effect. Nothing is shown directly. What an audience is given is an outline, a silhouette, the shape of a person who is not permitted to be seen in full — and the restriction is the argument. A campaign about people who exist without documentation, made with images that withhold identification on purpose. Working this way also means nobody's face is used as a fundraising instrument, which is an ethical decision before it is a visual one.

เงาคือวัสดุของงานนี้ ไม่ใช่เอฟเฟกต์ ไม่มีอะไรถูกแสดงออกมาตรงๆ สิ่งที่ผู้ชมได้รับคือเส้นขอบ คือเงาร่าง คือรูปร่างของคนที่ไม่ได้รับอนุญาตให้ถูกมองเห็นทั้งตัว และข้อจำกัดนั้นเองคือข้อเสนอของงาน แคมเปญที่พูดถึงผู้คนซึ่งมีตัวตนอยู่โดยไม่มีเอกสารรับรอง ถูกทำขึ้นด้วยภาพที่จงใจไม่เปิดเผยตัวตน การทำงานแบบนี้ยังหมายความว่าไม่มีใบหน้าของใครถูกใช้เป็นเครื่องมือระดมทุน ซึ่งเป็นการตัดสินใจทางจริยธรรมก่อนจะเป็นการตัดสินใจทางภาพ
