Scala Mapping
Mercedes-Benz Urban Hunting Party · Scala Theatre · 20 February 2015
OVERVIEW
How can a familiar landmark feel new for one night without changing a single surface? On 20 February 2015, the entrance of Scala Theatre became the visual centre of Mercedes-Benz Thailand's Urban Hunting Party. Kor Bor Vor measured the building and aligned a projection grid to its curved concrete edges, circular coffers and layered ornament before the evening performance.
The moving image follows the architecture instead of covering it with a rectangular screen. Lines stretch across the arches, surfaces appear to fold and break apart, and the familiar cinema entrance changes shape while every physical detail remains untouched. The mapping content, production and playback hardware were developed by Kor Bor Vor using Adobe CS6, Modul8 and MadMapper.
Presented at Scala Theatre, Siam Square. Lighting design by Kunt Lee; documentary by Vijaifoon x Kor Bor Vor.
