Two minutes of image before the first note, with one job to do: move several thousand people out of the car park and the queue and into the concert, then get out of the way. An overture is measured entirely by what happens after it ends — if the room is quiet at the downbeat, it worked, and nothing about it needs to be remembered afterwards. The difficulty is calibration: strong enough to take a room that is still talking, never strong enough to outrun the first song.
